Are you ready for a mind-bending journey because today we’re venturing beyond the usual assumptions and understanding of space-time and into an enigmatic realm where we’ll play with some very fundamental reference points and this might just jiggle out your brains 🤯.
So, Buckle up!
First Things First
What the heck is space time. We all have an intuitive and a well agreed upon understanding of this. The space is the actual space around us in which we move and time is this perception of change from one moment to the next. It’s basic, right?
Well yes, but the thing here which is rarely talked about is this:
It’s just a model. It’s just an assumption.
What do you mean, it’s just a model?
Ok. So like, how we have maps or a table globe which we can rotate forever. These are models to represent something much more enormous called our planet Earth.
Now, it’s a model doesn’t mean it’s completely useless. Without the google maps, people can’t find their barber shop these days. So, models are definitely very useful but at the same time they are not the complete picture.
Similarly, with the model of space time. It’s just a way of looking at and trying to understand our universe. And the new age physicists are claiming, that this whole idea that there’s something like space or time is flawed from the first assumption that any such phenomena even exist.
These physicists love to talk mind bending stuff, I’m telling ya…
Like “Energy and mass are same and interchangeable” or “Universe is not locally real”.
I don’t believe these guys. What does it even mean? Are they for real?
I think they just love to mess with everyone’s head.
Anyways…
The Flaws in Space-Time
"The distinction between the past, present and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion."
- Albert Einstein
Conventional physics teaches us about space-time as a continuum, a stage where the events of the universe unfold in a 3 dimensional cartesian realm (representing the space) and the change seems to happen in a singular direction, in a sequence (representing the arrow of time always moving forward).
But, this concept might just be our way of making sense of the cosmos, rather than an absolute truth?
Einstein’s relativity long showed us that mass does bend the fabric of space time. (Wha…, He’s doing it again. Don’t trust these guys. Shh….)
What he meant is that as we get closer to a heavier and heavier mass, the rate of change in that part of the universe gets slower and slower, that’s why when Murphy goes to a planet near the “Black Hole” (A lot of mass) in Interstellar, few minutes for him, would be equivalent to years on Earth.
This is not just fiction, it’s an actual phenomenon. The GPS satellites which do guide the Maps that we use to commute to our barber and wherever we go have quantum clocks (just very precise clocks). And because these clocks are up at some height and orbiting the earth, than us mortals living here on the ground, the time up there is a bit slower and these clocks go off sync time to time. So, we have to readjust it frequently so that it can function properly and guide to the right barber who knows what haircut we need without even saying a single word to him. That’s real magic!
If this isn’t already mind bending for you, these physicists have a ton more fiction for you and they do it openly under the name of science. Why do we even allow these guys, I just can’t seem to wrap my head around it.
No Fixed Point: Traveling Through Space-Time
Imagine there’s no inertial frame of reference. As in the famous “Origin” (position = 0,0,0 in XYZ cartesian realm).
???
The observer, the perceiver, the perception, what actually happens, the reality itself they say is not fixed or singular. It’s not that the observer is sitting at the origin and everything is happening through a fixed lens or perception.
Whatever happens, is not just what happens, it’s the observer’s creation. The same event could be looked at by an observer from a range of perspectives and even contradictory ones.
Do you still want to hear more from these crazy people?
If you wish so, go on. Don’t tell me I didn’t warn ya!
Everything is a shadow of higher dimensional shadow
It’s another fascinating journey into the interplay of dimensions and shadows. Imagine a 2-D universe with 2-D creatures, like Square or a Triangle.
Now, Square is a very rich guy in this universe and like to keep all his wealth stored up in a huge vault which is a Circle. He has got the guy with the best technology for safe keeping in the world, the Triangle.
Triangle, assures Square, no way anyone can break these walls and take away from you what’s yours. I hired the best physics guy to come up with this design.
But, we being a 3 dimensional being can just pick it up from inside the circle. This phenomenon would be mysterious to the poor creatures living in a 2-D, flat world.
Similarly, when they say that the space time bends because of any mass, it’s a glimpse into the higher dimensions. Our minds can’t visualise a space which would have these higher dimensions but they clearly do exist, just the way we exist for the flat landers.
Everything we see in 2-D is a shadow of a higher dimension. Similarly, everything we see around us and as us is a shadow in higher dimension realms. Mathematically we can say that what appears as different and distinct entities in this realm of ours can also be looked at as just shadows of a higher dimensional geometry.
If you do want some more of this crazy, let me know in the comments. But I warn you again, they’ll make you like one of them. Beware!
I feel it’s a lot for this post. I’ll see you in the next one. Till then, keep shining!
